Personal Public Communications & Digital Identity

What is digital identity?

A digital identity is information that is used by computer systems to represent a person, organization, application or even a device. A digital identity is how someone presents themselves online. For example, social media accounts often include a persons name, their face, their friends and family, revealing information about who this person is as an individual

How do personal versus professional approaches to digital identity affect social media use?

Social media has grown a lot in the past few years and a lot of people are active on it. However it is important to know the different between personal use and professional use when is comes to using social media. Our digital identity on our personal accounts can display who we are, while on our professional account it is important to remember that you might be representing a company and will have to post appropriate things. As a teacher candidate it is important to remember how I display myself on the internet as colleagues, parents and students can rather easily find my social media. That is why I always try to present myself in an appropriate  manner.

How do digital identities converge in networked publics- what are the impacts and/ or benefits?

For example, in North America, our digital identities are rather limited to our social media accounts or various other online accounts. However in other countries such as India, digital identities are used for various other things such as, prescription refills, document signing and even online tax filing. This allows citizens to access their digital tools and important information from anywhere that provides them with access to public networks
